Access Control

What is access control?

In the field of information security and physical security, access control is the selective restriction of access to a place, system or any other resource.

It is a security feature that is used to regulate who or what can access, view or use certain resources. It manages access through the authorization or revocation of rights to the resources.

There are two major types of access control: logical and physical. Logical access restricts connections to system files, networks, and data. Physical access control, on the other hand, restricts access to physical assets, buildings or rooms. Users have to present certain credentials to get access. A credential is a physical object, a facer of a person’s physical being or a piece of knowledge that enables an individual access to a certain facility or system. A good example is a key card which grants the user access to certain areas. Such a credential is not entirely secure as it can be stolen or transferred.

Trusted by thousands of customers Denver Secure provides comprehensive access control solutions to ensure maximum security for your assets, facilities, and networks. Access control systems provided by Denver Secure perform identification, authentication, authorization, and access approval through credentials such as biometric scans, personal identification numbers (PINs), passwords and electronic keys.

We advocate for a two-factor authentication system which is more secure. To get access to restricted areas, a person must show the credentials and a second feature such as pin or code to confirm identity. At Denver Secure, we can help you decide the best system for you depending on your security system.
There are various factors which can be used for identification and authentication:
• Something the user has, such as smart card
• Something the user knows, such as pass-phrase, password or PIN
• Something the user is, such as fingerprint
